Sunday(September 28), is the 68th. birth anniversary of the Great Lady
- Lata Mangeshkar.
My way of paying tribute to this phenom, is by the way of my first ever contribution to ITRANS. The tough part was picking a masterpiece that was composed by CR(it had to be:-)) and not already in ITRANS. Since my favorite songs from YASMIN were already in ITRANS (Neha beat me to it - DAMN:-() so I decided to pick a song from yet another desert-island album from CR. This song is from
Kidar Sharma's JHANJHAR. Although the movie was not successful, it had
some really tremndous Lata songs. My personal favorite is a song in the
Radha-Krishna genre, which Lata/CR excelled at. The interesting thing about
the way this song is composed is that CR uses a different melodic structure
for the last line in each 'antara' than for the rest of the song. The song
is essentially a love song (or with a slight strech of imagination can
be called a 'bhajan':-)), but the last line(albeit repeated 5-6 times)
of the antaras is tuned like a 'mujra' in a faster pace than the rest
Here are the lyrics. I'm ITRANS-illiterate, so please excuse any errors. Also, my memory is 'tainted', so corrections to lyrics, p-stats will be appreciated.
