Here
is a sensual Lata song, that I have mentioned a few times in the past.
Last year, as a tribute to Lata around her birthday, I had posted a song under the title 'LATAnjali'. I would like to continue the same series and and use it to post good songs of Lata. This is from a soundtrack
that many consider as Roshanlal's very best. It has eight songs by Lata
(that I know of) - five solos and three duets - all of them ranging from
very good to awesome.
Lata starts the song with a short alaap, which sets the mood. There is a marked difference in the way she sings this song, than most of her other songs. Here she sings with precision, as usual, but also with abandon. Her voice has an "openness" here with a very strong undercurrent of sensuality, that of a nubile woman who realises she has grown up and is discovering her sexuality. And Lata conveys this admirably. Among the various instruments used, the flute sections stand out, intermingled so ingeniously with the words. Set to a stunning composition, by the talented Roshanlal, here are the lyrics:
