Since
the jury is still out on the 'chandni chowk' song, let me start with another
of my favorite Roshan soundtrack. Roshan is known for his qawallis and
ghazals, but there is another genre that he was very good at and did not
get as much recognition. This genre is bhajans/devotional songs. His bhimpalasi
composition 'aye ri main to prem diwani' is and will be (for me) the yardstick
to measure all bhajans. Roshan composed four wonderful devotional songs
for 'rangeen raaten', and I would like to pick the best one of these(imo)
for today's post.
Roshan uses the regular
bhajan instruments like the bells, the little cymbals(what are they called?)
etc.
All the four bhajans in this film are picturized on Chand Usmani. It's been a while since I saw this film and the only thing I remember is that the great Geeta Bali plays a male character in the film. I don't know of any other instance where a famous actress played a male role.
